NKOTBSB Official Poster

You know it’s a great, great time for boybands when two of the biggest acts of that genre get together and spontaneously decide to go on tour together. Yes, the internet has been buzzing with news of an upcoming tour that will bring together the first group to follow the “boyband” format, New Kids on the Block, and the highest selling group, Backstreet Boys. Some naysayers think its because both groups no longer have a steady source of income, but that’s far from the truth. Sure, they’ve gotten older, their dance moves are a bit rusty, the songs evoke good memories of simpler times but nothing more, but when this tour was announced, echoes of screaming girls (well women actually) could be heard all over the world. Just goes to show that they’ve still got it, one way or another.

I am a sucker for the Backstreet Boys and completely bummed out that I will not be able to attend any of their concerts.

Here’s what we basicallyknow about NKOTBSB:

  • The tour is set to begin in the Summer of 2011.
  • Tour dates and locations are gradually being announced, however  North America has been confirmed. No Europe dates yet! (Boo!)

  • There will be 9 boys/kids men on tour since the Backstreet Boys have been a foursome since 2007 when Kevin Richardson left to pursue other interests and start a family. No word on whether Richardson will be making any special appearances throughout.
  • Tickets are set to go on sale starting November 19 but pre-sales and VIP tickets have already begun.
  • The youngest member of NKOTBSB is Nick Carter, of BSB fame, (30) while the oldest will be NKOTB’s Jonathan Knight (41).  Wow.
  • The stage’s setup will ensure a maximum number of front-row seats. No one told them, however, that it resembles a certain something.
  • Social media is going to be very important in the promotion of this tour. Already the collaboration have a Twitter account and a Facebook fan page.
  • The bands will perform all their greatest hits, maybe some new ones. Surprises are in store, they say.
  • Inspiration for this tour and its poster are more than likely from the 2010 action-heroes movie The Expendables.
  • Live Nation will be producing this tour.

More information to come soon! Also, like I said above, look out for our comparison/contrast between the two groups.

Until then, here are the men boys talking about the stage set up on Entertainment Tonight:
